Cited in Scopus: 1Recent discoveries and advances in technology have promoted the ability to discover new mechanisms and biomarkers related to CKDs. One of the most important discoveries is the sequencing of the human genome that allowed all human proteins to be identified from their peptide sequences. Another is the rapid development and improvement of technologies to identify and quantify proteins that have led to the large-scale study of proteins known as proteomics. Proteomics coalesced as an investigative methodology in 1996 when large-scale gel electrophoresis for protein separation was coupled with mass spectrometry and a software was enabled to interrogate the inferred proteins derived from the human genome map.
